Multiple hikers missing after large rockslide near Banff, AB - 6/19/2025

Details are sketchy, but isn’t this near where the recent G7 summit was? One witness said they estimated the resulting rockpile to be 10 meters deep.

It’s at least several kilometers away.

I have since discovered that it’s about 100 miles away.

One confirmed fatality.

Rescuers in Alberta are set to resume their search today for anyone else caught up in a massive rockfall that killed one and injured three in a remote section of Banff National Park…

Officials have said one person was found dead at the scene, two people were airlifted to hospital in Calgary and a third was taken by ground ambulance.

So it’s not clear how are still buried under a massive pile of rock–or if there simply weren’t many people there or if they ran fast enough to escape.

It sounds, from the guy who ran away, like there were a lot of people there. They probably just haven’t found the bodies, yet. :worried: There might still be some survivors, too.

Officials said no one else has been reported missing and there are no unidentified vehicles at the trailhead.

So it looks like a total of two dead and three injured.

Teams have been using aircraft with infrared sensors to search the debris field and a geotechnical engineer was brought in to check the stability of the mountainside.

While I feel bad for those who were injured or worse, this disaster was a lot less bad than it potentially could have been.

Moderators, lock this thread if you deem it appropriate.

Not nearly as bad as i feared!

We don’t usually do that unless a thread is causing problems.

Not a problem!

It looked like a potentially big news story, and it turned out (thank heavens) not to be outside its immediate area.
