As a kid I loved the Munsters more because they looked cooler.
The Munsters behaved mostly as normal people who looked funny.
The Addams Family had more of a bizarre, edgy quality which made them better.
I use their “mail’s in” sound to announce when I get new email.
I was sure that the Munsters was an on the fly rip-off when a few years back on Nick at Nite or TV land they showed one of the opening scenes for the show and they darkened the screen to show a highlight behind the staircase. A stagehand can be seen carrying a ladder about the set, just behind the family posing in front of said staircase.
I love the Munsters more, mainly because I watched that show on TV as a kid, while my first exposure to the Addams Family was through The Adams Family Movie. I love Hermann Munster, identified with the son, and coveted their house. As an adult there’s too much of an S&M aspect to the Adams Family for me.

A trademark has to be used every (I think) 7 years or it lapses into public domain.
