Murder in Beijing

Story here.

:frowning:

Too bad he did it out of order. He should have jumped first.

I wonder if we’ll ever find out why he did it. The article says, ‘The Bachmans were not wearing apparel that identified them as relatives of members of the U.S. delegation at the time of the attack.’ Did he know anyway, and did he have a beef with the U.S.? Or did he hate Westerners in general and they just happened to be Americans instead of French or Dutch? Or did he dislike tourists in general, and their being Westerners was just happenstance?

Or just want to embarrass the Chinese government by killing a foreigner at the Olympics? Any foreigner?

And was he helped to jump by security officers?

I don’t know if this was the act of one crazy person or the start of something more sinister. What a horrible tragedy.

It’s very sad. And now there are reports of an attack in the Uighur autonomous region - nowhere near the Olympics, but I wonder about the timing. Either from attacks or from a government response, I’m starting to think this is going to get very ugly.
