Mushrooms: Delicious or "No thank you"?

In this thread and others I’ve noticed there are more than a few of us who share my distaste for mushrooms.

So let’s go to the poll!

Hey, I’m the first to vote.

Love 'em. Can’t have too many in any dish. I add them to almost everything.

I never met a shroom I didn’t like. Even the weird textured “fungus” in Chinese soups.

Give me mushrooms morning, noon, and night!

Mushrooms are delicious fresh; raw or cooked, dried and cooked, but canned/jarred mushrooms are an abomination. A wet, tasteless abomination.

I beg to differ. Italian marinated mushrooms aren’t bad at all. Not my preferred preparation, but I’ve been known to plow through a jar of 'em. I’m with ya on the canned mushrooms though.

Not that I eat canned mushrooms or anything, but much of the time, mushrooms don’t really add taste. When part of a thick sauce, they sort of take on the flavor of the sauce, and add texture more than anything.

Depends - homemade they can be very good. The main side dish at a restaurant near my place are pan-fried porcini which they get jarred straight from the Bordeaux region and they are to die for.

Frozen 'shrooms of any kind however is what they eat in Hell. Just towering piles of the soggy, insipid abominations every day of every week, forever.

I’m not a fan. They aren’t something I loathe, but I will rarely eat them on purpose.

crab-stuffed mushrooms are awesome. I always have fried mushrooms on cheese steak, and I often put them in my home fries.

Mushrooms are fungus and an abomination in the eyes of all right-thinking people. Not to save the souls of the innocent would I willingly eat a mushroom.

I’ve got a pretty decent Italian store near by - maybe I’ll try and see if I can change my mind. So far, I’ve not been impressed at all, but those were ordinary supermarket jarred shrooms.

People freeze mushrooms?!

More gorgonzola for the rest of us!

Not a fan. I will tolerate them but happily pick them off/out if possible. Bleh.

No mushrooms are bad, although there is a several orders of magnitude difference
between the average and the best.

I call the now trendy portobello average, and canned stuff is worse than average,
but I still like them OK.

The best I ever had were freshly picked morels sauteed in butter. They were out of
this world. Absolutely the best-tasting thing you could eat. Shitake are up there too.

Grilling a bunch up tonight, as it so happens.

I like mushrooms but only prepared in certain ways. The wild mushrooms are delicious breaded and fried. However, I stopped eating them for the risk of poisoning myself. I also like them pickled in a gardiniera.

I like them on just about everything but ice cream.

I love 'em!

Hated 'em as a kid, but when my tastes finally matured in my early 20’s I found I couldn’t resist them.

Guess I’m still waiting for my tastes to mature, then.

I don’t like them, never have. I think it’s the texture more than anything else.

It’s all about consistency. I used to think they were disgusting, but sauted mushrooms on steak or chopped mushroom soup is fantastic.

That’s so funny because I think the texture is the best part. Different strokes.

Now, texture or organ meat (liver, etc.), that’s the bad kind!
