Mushrooms in Japan?

I have a friend who is currently in Japan… yesterday he e-mailed me and said that store in Japan sell mushrooms (the magic kind…)!

Is this true? Is this legal in Japan?

Need to know before contacting my travel agent…

As far as I know, they’re still legal. However, there are moves afoot to ban them. Pack your bags soon.

OK… I’m packing, but what am I going to tell my fiancee?

Fiancee: “Why are you going to Japan for the weekend?”

Astro: “Uh… cultural research?”

Fiancee (knowing me too well, and smelling a rat): “Yeah, right! What kind of trouble are you brewing up now?”
I need a plan! Hmmm…

Yep they’re legal, and there are a couple of reputable shops that sell them at a pretty reasonable price. I’ve never tried them myself, but would like to at some point.

As for them being banned, well, there have been “moves afoot” for the last 4 years at least. There are glaciers that can outmaneuver the Japanese government. Heck, it took them 30 years to approve birth control pills (only 4 months to approve Viagra, though).

So, Astroboy14, come on out, but don’t worry too much about missing the deadline. If you do decide to come, drop me an email at imsublight@excite.com
