Your daughter picked mushrooms in your living room?
Mentioned to Other Shoe that I posted “his” recipe, and apparently I made a few glaring omissions:
- white pepper (crucial to flavor, he says, and must not be omitted)
- bamboo shoots (my bad: totally forgot)
- cornstarch slurry (ditto) add after simmering for a while but simmer further after adding, goes in before the egg
- the vinegar: red wine + Chinese black - use both
- the tofu needs to be extra firm type
- shredded chicken may be added if desired
- add sliced scallions at the end
Sure did–then she took off all her clothes and swam around the living room like a seal. Makes me wonder what kind of mushrooms they were.
(One of her favorite read-alouds is Mushrooms Demystified. She’s an intriguing little critter).
A shortcut to mushrooms?
Sorry, sorry, I was rereading it last night…
There must be a joke here, but I’m not getting it.
No worries, I was just amusing myself.
Sautee them in butter with garlic, crumbled sage, salt, and pepper until they are nice and browned. Add a bit of sherry and simmer for another minute or two. Then add some sour cream. Eat over pasta (with parm, if you like).
It’s a Lord of the Rings reference.
