Music from Gangs of New York

When they are offloaging the coffins and loading the new soldiers on the background music is some song about the irish coming over to fight [or so i vaguely remember] Anybody know the name of the song? I cant find my copy and I cant remember the lyrics good enough to do a lyric search…

I believe the song you want is “Paddy’s Lamentation.”

Here’s the song listing from AMAZON.

That’s Linda Thompson, ex-wife of Richard Thompson, and one of the most soul-stirring voices ever recorded. Two of the couple’s recordings—I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight (1974) and Shoot Out the Lights (1982)—are among the greatest albums in the history of rock. Linda’s comeback solo-recording Fashionably Late was among the best records of 2002.

I looked at t he track listing, but if you cant remember the lyrics, other than in a vague subject way you might have no way of remembering what the song was, it could have just as easily been Paddy has gone for a soldier, which is not the song i wanted … =)

will check it out right now)

Yup, just downloaded the one off Dublin Millenium =) thanks

From a post on Mudcat Cafe about “Paddy’s Lamentation”:

“Then when I saw ‘The Gangs of New York,’ I recognized it in the soudtrack as Leo is watching the Irish men being loaded off a ship and having a gun shoved in their hands.”
