Music in Escape from New York and Christine

I watched Christine a few days ago for the first time in decades. It was neat to hear the dramatic drum theme pacing some long smooth scenes. It is a similar score as “Escape From New York”, although not as incessant. I thought perhaps Christine used it first but no, "EFNY was earlier and Carpenter must have liked it that much.

Maybe John Carpenter just doesn’t have much range as a composer.

What a fucked up comment to make based on two data points.

You do know that John Carpenter’s work is cited as one of the key focal points of an entire genre of music, don’t you?

Don’t get me wrong: I like the soundtrack to his movies well enough. But there’s a certain similarity to it.

Totally agree. I love Carpenter as a director, and I like his soundtracks, but they do all sound very similar. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Heck, the score for Carpenter’s, “The Thing,” was done by the (recently) late Ennio Morricone but it sounds just like a JC score.
