Music in Sims2

Anyone else really love the radio station music in Sims 2? One thing about the University expansion that I’m really enjoying is the College Rock station - such great music! (And I’ve always loved ‘360’ from the ‘pop’ channel…)

Even in Simlish, some songs are just really, really catchy.

One of those songs on the College Rock station sounds like a Sim Tori Amos. That cracks me up every time I hear it. My sims listen to more salsa music than anything, but their teenaged daughter appreciates the college station.

You know, a couple of the songs on the college rock station really sound familiar. I actually catch myself almost singing lyrics to them. Does anyone know where they got the music from? I swear, I’ve heard these songs before!

I love College Rock. It’s so hilariously spot-on. The Tori Amos/Sarah McLachlan piano one is especially perfect.

I’m lovin’ the new hip-hop tunes also.
They had one in a video preview that I was so hoping would be included with the game.
It is.

My husband was listening to the College Rock station last night and said that it reminds him of a segment on Spicks and Specks (a quiz show on the ABC in Australia about music/music culture) where people are asked to sing the tune of a well-known song while actually using words they’re reading out of a book. (For example, singing a paragraph from ‘Garden Pests & Diseases’ to the tune of the Beatles ‘Love me do’. )

Seems like a very good description, to me!

What I find funny is that the songs described as Tori Amos- or Sarah McLachlan-style struck me as being very Delta Goodrem, and I’d guess that whereever you go in the world they’ll have a singer who is famous in that region for singing songs that sound just like that.

I think the Sims2 songwriters/artists are having fun with the predictability of modern music. So much stuff is just variants on a theme. (This is also exactly the case with every era, so if they ever bring out a station for ‘60’s/70’s’, WW2 era or similar I think it’ll be equally good!)
