John Prine Hello in there

The Hebrew Slaves Chorus from the Verdi opera Nabucco. I am not a fan of opera, but this work gives me goose bumps. When Verdi died, the people lined the street and sang this as his coffin went by.

Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”

That’s one for me too.

Several songs from Willie Nelson’s Spirit and miscellaneous Bob Dylan songs can do it for me as well.

Wonderfully moving song.

I think this by Jeff Buckley is the best version.

This is from the Voice UK. You can tell the singer has been through really tough times by the emotion in her voice.

Chopin: Piano Concerto No.1, Movement 2 - Largo, Romance (Zimerman)

Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24 but more the original release on Dead Winter Dead by their Savatage identity. Add the fact that we lost a branch of our kinfolk in the Bosnian War and that one just rips my heart. After reconnecting with them during the Olympic run and all ---- it just is that one song that brings tears every time.

Gene Pokorny Prelude a l’apres-midi d’un faune

This is a very well known work – some would even say well worn – but you never heard it like this.

Still haunting and gorgeous, even though I’ve heard it a million times.

(BTW, this is the selection that won Gene his job with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra – even the string players who usually hate brass players loved this performance.)

Also, most anything by Ralph Vaughn Williams, like his Fantasia on a theme of Thomas Tallis

Who I just realized the late James Horner appropriated and downright stole from for his Field of Dreams movie music, which also made me cry when I was in the theater. Damn his time.

(Check out The Lark Ascending and Variations on Dives and Lazarus, which also sound just like … James Horner movies.

And finally …

The late Kevin Mahogany, When October Goes.

Excellent contribution.

I can’t imagine any music that would set me to blubberin’, but this one has been known to give me the bumps of a goose:

Jim Nabors - The Impossible Dream
mmm

Celtic Woman will bring tears to your eyes on many of their songs, even the ones not in English.

Me too. It was the first one ever, and there have been many since.

I love that piece. Someone gave it to me for Christmas when I was 11, with Sir Adrian Boult conducting.

searches This one, I think.

 Holy crap, what a talent!

Israel Kamakawiwo’ole singing a mashup of ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ & ‘What A Wonderful World’

My go-to happy song and yeah, gets me misty-eyed sometimes.
