There are over 35 covers of that song. My favorite is from The Corrs, off their Live from Dublin album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYDNcfFn-gw
There Will Be Rest - Frank Ticheli
Also Carúl Inis Córthaidh This version is a bit mashed up with the anglicized “Wexford Carol.” The Irish lyrics are quite different, a hymn of gratitude to Mary for all she suffered to bring the gift of “Mac Muirra Og” Mary’s little son.
Solace by Scott Joplin.
A ton of (the passage at 45:09-45:30) piano works byFrédéric Chopin.
Brahms, too (especially the “B” section that starts at 2:00).
Jupiter from Holst’s planets suite. That mid section that gets all slow and swelling… so beautiful.
I Made It Thought the Rain as sung by Barry Manilow.
Is that
““I made it!” thought the rain”
or
“I Made it Through the Rain” ?
Where to start. The famous duet from Bizet’s Pearl Fishers, Monteverdi’s Combattimento di Tancredo e Clorinda (heartbreaking), the Mad Song from Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, the final duet from Bellini’s Norma. I could go on for ages. Nothing has more power to stir the emotions than opera.
This song was played, inexplicably, during the reception after my older niece got married.
I always thought it would have made more sense if played at a funeral.
