Music that makes you SHIVER - reccomendations please!

I feel bad for you. Comparing VHS to DVD is like comparing 8-track to CD.

Me too. Just incredible.

I also wanted to add Sahra by Khaled. I mean the song in particular, but I can listen to the whole CD over and over and over.

Whipping Post by the Allman Brothers Band, the studio version off their first album. Toward the end of the song, the band builds to a crescendo running up the scale. Then Duane makes his guitar scream and cry, as Greg calls out in pain. The the band stops short and Greg cries, “Sometimes I feel…” I bet I’ve heard that bit five hundred times and it still gives me a shiver.

Also, Careful With That Axe, Eugene by Pink Floyd off Ummagumma never fails to send a chill up my spine.

Vivaldi’s Winter

DeBussy’s La Mer

Toad the Wet Sprocket’s “Stories I Tell,” a little over two minutes into the song when he sings “Do you eeeeeeeeever wonder?”

“Ender” by Finch. The whole song is great, but the guitars at the end always give me goosebumps.

Tori Amos - “Cooling.” Wow. The whole damn thing.

Also Tori’s cover of “A Case of You,” when she sings “in a blue TV screen light.”

The Sundays - “Here’s Where the Story Ends,” when she sings “It’s that little souvenir of a terrible year.”

Here’s another vote for “Danse Macabre.” Holst’s Planets, too, although Mars has a bit more of an effect on me than Jupiter.

There are a lot from operas that I like – the finale from Verdi’s Aida is amazing, as well as the Church Scene and Party In Hell from Faust.

Another of my favourites is “Vissi D’Arte” from Tosca. I loved it the first time I heard it, but once I knew what the words meant it had more of an effect on me. Here’s a rough-ish translation:

Amazing.

The Police - Invisible Sun
Led Zeppelin - 10 Years Gone, The Rain song and Thank You

Eric Clapton’s acustic guitar solo from “Let it Grow”. It’s only a few seconds long, but…
