music (warning:may offend rap fans!!)

For the movie treatment, I have trouble deciding between The Ladies Man and Breakin’ II: Electric Boogaloo

I’m curious as to why someone can be adamant that “gay” is insulting, then go right ahead and use “cunt”. Doing that doesn’t seem very white of a fellow.

[sub]I’ll be ducking behind cover over here, now. Carry on.[/sub]

How about “Double Decker”. Turntables are often called decks, but the meaning would go deeper. Kinda representing the double natures of this guys life. Job/Art. City Girl/ New Girl. Major Label/Independent. Two endings!

I’m still tryin’ to come up with some other names. I’ll let you know if I think of any.

BTW, are you serious? I’ve got some film-maker friends who are always looking for good scripts. I’ve started a couple but am having trouble finishing them. If you do write this, send me a copy and we’ll see what happens!

I just got strange looks for laughing so loud at work. Thanks.

Okay. As the OPer, I know what the OP was about. It was about how much rap sucks:P and NOT about how the word ‘gay’ can be used, NOT about people’s careers and how much money they rake in, and DEFINETLY (my spelling’s a bit off today, so bare with me) NOT about making a movie about this thread! So can we PLEASE get back the the OP???

bobevilsquid:

Sure. Rap does not suck. It is an art form that takes practice and skill. Nelly is not the best example, but it’s still good. Hip-hop has a diverse, talented, and energetic culture. It deserves respect. Just cause you don’t like it doesn’t mean it’s not great music.

AKA: Da Big Beats are that bomb shit that we like to big-up in the club. All these mutha fuckas know what up cause they feelin it for real. Ya heard?

Dalovin’ Dj

It’s called a hijack, Bob. Get used to it. It actually made your boring thread interesting.

My head hurts.

Someone make a note to ask dalovindj to come read this thread ten years from now, and see if he cringes when he reads what he’s written. I’m hoping he will, but I’m not betting on it.

I doubt it too because you know he’s going to be dope foreva and never lose touch with his super-fly bouncin’ hip cats.

scared of the flava Sauron? well, fear not. I’ll be bumpin’ beats until they run out of power or I die. whichever comes first.

DaLovin’Dj

P.S. - Remember, “Different” does not = “Bad”

But i’m sure he didnt mean cunt as refering to a female, or genitalia or…oh yeah, I guess it is kinda the same.

Oh, I have no fear of the “different.” Different is good.

As has been pointed out, though, the words we post here are the only method we have of projecting ourselves. They are our image on this board. I would venture to guess that I’ve got a skosh more life experience than you. That doesn’t by any means invalidate what you’ve got to say. However, I’ve noticed that when I’m reminded of things I said or wrote ten years ago, I frequently wonder how I could’ve been so myopic. Open-mindedness is a two-way street; if you’re too busy pumping out lingo and catch-phrases, and being all caught up in how cool you are, you might miss something of value along the way.

Just a friendly bit of advice from an old geezer.

I don’t know dalovindj from a hole in the ground, but it seems to me that he’s the one keeping his cool while others are freaking out. If he wants to speek Street, how is that any worse than quoting Monty Python, or trying to come up with new swear words?

Per the OP: What does it matter? If you don’t like rap, fine. You can’t tell me there aren’t other radio stations you could listen too. Personally, I think most country sucks ass, but I’d never be ignorant enough to try and claim that it isn’t music, or that it doesn’t take talent to perform it.

And you know, if you’re gonna blast an entire musical genre (Yes, it IS music, you overblown zygote), then at least take the time to learn a little more about it. I hardly think that one song by Nelly represents the entire history of rap.

How about “Crossfade” for the title?

DaLovin’Dj

My, my.

First, I’d like to to welcome dalovindj to The Straight Dope. I find your opinions and your use of the language rather refreshing. I think this place needs a little spice, you know? Gettin’ kinda dull around here lately.

Second, those of you who are tripping over each other to flame the use of the word “gay” should get over yourselves. How about letting the mods decide what is or is not appropriate, okay?

Rap is not my favorite, in fact some it gets on my nerves, but I would rather hear it than country or Britany Spears type crap any day. Some of the Rap/rock stuff I actually like quite a lot. Rage against the machine, for instance, or The Red Hot Chili Peppers. George Clinton produced one of the Chili’s albums, and even sang on it. I can respect anything that has requires talent or ceativity.

If I’m a poser, then what does that make you?
Oh, that’s right…a loser.

No, Tokiwoki, you refer to cats like myself as Playa. You could be called a Playa-Hata as well as a poser. Got it?

DaLovin’Dj

Are you saying only people with a “real” career can make $50,000? What planet do you live on? I never went to college and I pulled in at least that much last year. Also, I assume you don’t consider modeling a “real” career, but many models bring in millions every year. I know this may be asking too much, but try to think before you post.
