I’ve finally become afraid of the"law and order" types.
I can’t believe the types of things people are willing to accept just because “someone broke a law.”
Who can accept sending a 16 year old American kid to IRAN of all places?
That’s right, I said American kid. America is a special place, much different than the rest of the world. If you grow up here, then you are just as American as anyone else who grew up here.
I’m all for following the rules, but for god’s sake, have a little perspective.
Look at this photo of parents and tell me if it it right for the US government to be inflcting this kind of pain on people for no valid reason. Or do they really think a kid who grew up in the US and knows no other country is a threat? How about his parents who are much more familiar with the foreign culture?
One thing is for sure: all this is not making the USA look any better in the eyes of the world.
These aliens are guests of this country. The only ones being arrested are those who have violated the conditions that they agreed to when they came here. Thus, they became illegal aliens subject to arrest/deportation.
Why should you be disgusted with your government for enforcing the law?
Yes Hermann but the majority have not violated their conditions by their own actions, just rather through the ineptitude of the US government agency that deals with them.
I get so tired of hearing “if they did everything right they wouldn’t be in trouble”. If Europe started jailing all Americans who have committed the slightest violation, you’d have tens of thousands of Americans in European jails. Or do you think no American can forget to renew some document or be unaware of some regulation?
Is there no sense of proportion? Especially since the fucking INS is the first one who cannot get its own house in order.
And why is it OK to single out those from Muslim countries?
Having dealt with the INS on many occasions, I have no hesitation in saying that most of the people processing paperwork would be lucky if they could find their a** with both hands and a roadmap.
The idea that someone who has fully complied with all requirements for temporary residency is an “illegal immigrant” because the INS itself has not processed the applications sent in way ahead of time is just WILLFUL BLINDNESS.
Imagine that you sent in your driver’s license renewal form, and after waiting the ordinary period of time (let’s say, a month) you had not received a renewed license. But now, let’s consider the situation that a typical temporary or permanent resident faces: you try to call the motor vehicle department/INS to ask what happened. No good. THEY DO NOT ACCEPT PHONE CALLS. Seriously, I’m not kidding. There’s a voicemail system with lots of information, but NO WAY TO LEAVE A MESSAGE. So now you go to the MV office/local INS office. Also no good: you are not admitted to the building–ARMED GUARDS prevent you from entering because you do not have an appointment. Alarmed, you now hire a lawyer, taxing your $$$$ resources. Your lawyer writes letters on your behalf, which are sent by certified mail. Unfortunately, the letters have no effect. Your lawyer now files an motion in an ordinary US court, seeking an injunction to force the MV department/INS to do its job. The MV dept/INS—which still can’t find your application, or assign a clerk to process your application, or assign a supervisor to find out what the heck is happening–CAN afford to send a lawyer to oppose the motion on the ground that “you have not exhausted your administrative remedies.” It turns out that there is a special NON-public procedure which NOW, they finally tell you about, in which you can (after paying a special $200 “processing fee”) get them to accept your application again–they deny ever having received it the first time, EVEN after you produce the return receipt for the first application (“we have no way of knowing, your Honor, who signed this–the signature is illegible–the applicant has no proof that this person actually works for the department.”)
Now, while waiting for your permit to arrive again, you get pulled over by a cop. And thrown in jail for driving with an expired license. Of course, when you get out of jail, at least you will still be in America, as opposed to these poor guys who may wind up on the other side of the world and be barred for ten years from re-emtering the US.
As to that INS line about nobody being arrested except people who are in illegal status—the technical term for that would be “a lie.”
