We’ll not by herself. Some people frown on letting a 3 year old climb a mountain without adult supervision. But, she did do it without any help at all.
We’re not talking K2 or anything, but I think the fact that my 3 year old (by about a week), managed to climb Stone Mountain all by herself with no assistance is a pretty cool thing. And, in true kid fashion, I think she probably chose the most difficult path up considering every time she saw a giant rock it immediately became the best way to progress upward.
And, it probably helps she’s the size of a 5 year old and can actually get over some of the bigger stuff.
In that vein, what are your youthful accomplishments of amazement that seem out of the norm for the age?
We have one of those snap together electronic circuit kits. When my daughter was just over three she spent some time playing with it, then brought it to me and asked “Daddy, why doesn’t my circuit work?”. She’d gotten the diode backwards. Stupid kid.
When my oldest daughter was four, she spent a long, long time doing something quietly in the dining room, and eventually emerged to present me with a high-quality homemade construction paper popup card, complete with little windows and tabs and secret messages and everything. I said in astonishment, “How did you know how to make one of those?”
She said, basically, I saw one, and I knew how it must go, so I made one.
Well, it was Stone Mountain too, although I was five at the time. Do they still have the Indians that jump on the train and tear that poor damsel’s dress? My little sister clutched hers tight, telling them they couldn’t have it. They didn’t want my pants as, by then, they had pee all over them.
No, I think they’ve been relegated to some government run patch of dry land in the Southwest.
Actually, a few years ago management of the park changed (to the Dollywood people). They removed most everything at the top of the mountain other than the building that the skylift empties into. The train ride is mostly just a ride and they have a Stone Mountain village area with a couple of large and intricate kid play areas along with some various rotating entertainment, movies, etc.
All in all, a pretty good place to take a kid and to get some physical activity.
As it should be. Upon reflection that was disturbingly racist but this was many decades back. It played right in with a couple of popular kid’s shows at the time, staples The Lone Ranger and Davy Crockett.
