God killed all the firstborn children in an entire country.
The LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon.... And there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead. -- Exodus 12:29-30
Sometimes God kills children for misbehaving.
And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them. -- 2 Kings 2:23-24
God sounds like one evil, murderous SOB to me. I guess if you don’t love and obey him, he will kill you.
What do you say to the hundreds of millions of muslims, and buddhists, and hindus etc… in the world who each make the very same claim you make about their own faith?
They can all quote chapter and verse from their own holy books about the legitimacy of their faith above all others.
What makes you think that you are right and they are wrong?
John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
So - God required a human sacrifice.
He also requested that Abraham perform a human sacrifice - while he ‘let it go’ at the last moment, he still required it right up until then.
You do not tell the whole story. The Egyptian Pharaoh first killed all the newborn males of the people of Israel. And God warned them to release His people before He had done the same to them. It was a time of war. The American government had done a lot worse when they dropped two atomic bombs on Japan killing 100,000 innocent people including women, children, plants and animals.
How could they have been faithful (putting faith in christ, which you claim is a requirement for atonement) if they were already dead and in hell when christ showed up?
God just say “sorry for all the torment, kinda screwed up the timeline a bit, the delivery of Christ 1.0 was delayed due to a bug in the code” or somethng?
Lastly - you have yet to show that the ‘Messianic Prophecy’ has been fullfilled - there are certainly plenty who disagree on that point - seems kinda poor form to punish the first believers for not giving up thier faith when this other guy shows up.
