My apartment has no phone jacks

My apartment has no built-in phone jacks. They are all the little boxes that are added after primary construction.

It was built in the late seventies in a suburban neighborhood…it’s a duplex set up like a townhouse (two floors, apartments side by side).

Why would someone build an apartment like this?

Are you sure it was in the late 1970s?

If it was the early 1970s, the phone used by the apartment dweller was probably owned by AT&T, and hard-wired into the wall. There were four-prong jacks at the time, but having one cost extra.

I’m not sure I get your drift. Do you mean that all of the wiring is outside the walls, or do you mean that the jacks are surface mounted rather than set into the wall?
