My asparagus is coming up!

About two weeks ago I mowed down my asparagus patch + covered it with 4" of compost to put it to bed for the winter. I assume becaiuse of the unseasonably warm weather (+ probably the heat from the compost), it’s coming back up!

Yesterday we had our first real Fall weather, and actally had snow. It was just a few flakes, but I’m sure a blizzard will be around soon enough. We’re overdue!

Is it going to survive the winter? Does it go dormant, then use up all of it’s stored energy to put out new shoots?

Would it hurt it to harvest this unusual late season crop?

What zone/state are you in?

Sorry - I meant to include that!

Vermont - right on the 4/5 border, but at high altitude, so probably 4 is all I can get away with. Although if the trend of the last several years continues, I may be in zone 6 by 2010!
