My blood just went cold

There are reports of a tornado touching down about 5-7 miles from me…there is a tornado warning for our area till 3:00 then a tornado watch till 9:00 tonight…

Gads – this kinda freaks ya out.

< eeeek – running to window to look south, south east >

Just make sure that damn dog is in the basement with you before you close the storm doors.

Is the sky green yet? Is there any hail yet?

Tornado watches and warnings happen here in summer about once a week in a bad summer - we’ve only had two or three so far this year.

Don’t forget to duck!

tech, keep us updated.

And here I expected to open the thread to discover that your memory had just been sold, and that your angel was a centerfold.

Yep it already hailed. Not a bunch though.

It’s been a while since I have been in a warning area (probably about 2 years) so it kinda scares me.

The clouds are not moving much either, it’s kinda stalled over us.

Eeek… I hope you don’t have to go through that shit. I live in North Dallas, and I was here earlier this year when the tornado severely fucked up Fort Worth.

Just think, if one more bird in Houston had farted that day, I’d probably be dead.

HAHA Christ, I wish I had thought of that…

-Na na na-na na na…

Yikes! Keep us posted. That sitting over the house thing doesn’t sound good.

Catrandom

Now I have that song in my head. Everybody, sing along! Na na na na na na, na na na na na na na na…

I also live in tornado alley. I’ve seen 'em up close; I’ve slept through one passing less than 40 ft away. They still terrify the *#$@ out of me. Take cover and take care.

I’ll do the whistling bit. It’s playing in my head anyway.

Having spent many a summer in Kansas while on vacation, I understand the joys of tornado season. As a bonus, I did get to hang out in the basement of 2 different banks instead of getting to watch cartoons with my grandpa.

The clouds have moved a little and I think the worst has headed out east.

I just ran to get some smokes and the skies are looking pretty scary to the south.

How stupid is this. This rates a 10 on the “duh” scale.

“If threatening weather approaches, take cover.” just scrolled across the TV screen.

No, I want to be in the middle of it all.

Tech, that message is for the idiots that like to go out onto the front porch when they hear the tornado siren.

‘Gersh Maw, looky dere, A ternado headen right tewerds us.’

Tech, be safe. More important than keeping us posted. Unless your computer is in a windowless bunker stay hunkered down.

Bye Dorothy! Say hello to the wicked witch for me, willya?

(man, if something happens to you I’m gonna feel soooo bad)

Actually, personal anecdote to relate. Well, third-hand personal anecdote. The father of a friend of my sister likes to sit on the porch when storms approach and watch the weather. A few years ago he was doing just that, about 9 pm, with the dark menacing sky, lightning, etc. Looking out across a bluff, flash of lightning, and he saw this big ol nasty tornado with streamers (off-shoots) heading right at the house. He ran around getting the family and heading them to the basement, just closing the door as it hit the house. Smashed up the house, ruined all their clothing (insulation imbedded in the fabric), the whole works. That was the tornado that hit Arkansas a couple years ago and the alarm sirens did NOT go off, the national weather service had a hiccup. It made national news. It was a category 4 tornado (I think) that amazingly only killed 4 people.

So sitting on the porch isn’t necessarily a bad idea, just know to go to cover when you see the tornado.

Here in Tornado Alley we’re used to them durned things. Why, back in '67 one touched down in my back yard, probably before we got to the basement; Grandma was ahead of the rest of us on the stairs. The tornado tore up the bushes, then tore off the roof of some apartments up the street and killed somebody in a trailer park (of course).

Never got a chance to get a good look at her, though. Would like to sometime, settin’ on the porch while it goes past, but twisters don’t pass through these parts so much no more. All the building and such seems to have pushed them further south.

If you don’t get many tornados in Colorado, at least you get some proper winters. Think I’d go nuts living somewhere with no noticable weather.

Tech, I know exactly what you mean.

I’m in Mississippi, and about 3 hours ago, at work, an almost tornado (fauxnado?) blew through. We went outside because it was weird and windy,(no warning on the radio) then the trees began to bend and everything started to blow around in circles. The sky was freaky looking, meaning, it was windy, but not from any direction that made visual sense. So,“Oh Shit!” and we ran and huddled in the bathroom. We heard a rattling tearing sound as the wind tore off a chimney cap and hurled it a few hundred feet. Then hail, thunder, and when we went outside, branches from trees and bent trees. Yikes!

I just got home, and some big trees have blown over in the driveway. Now it’s sunny, but I’m still shaking from the weird way the clouds were moving…

Hope you’re OK.

Brrrrrrr…
