Congratulations! Good to see a Doper get recognized! Kudos and so forth!
Managed to see Howard once in Chicago at Rosa’s. He was playing his backing band off the stage.
Cool! I been a volunteer community radio blues DJ for 25+ discontinuous years in various locales (Chicago, Memphis, Mississippi, Anchorage) and now every now and then in Maine – I haven’t been able to talk the local station into giving me a regular slot ![]()
Back in the day in Chicago I would interview the local musicians – I’m talking about Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed, and a host of lesser-knowns. My ex still has the old reel-to-reel tapes, but I’m told that if I (could get them and) tried to play them, they’d probably be so brittle they’d self-destruct into bazillions of unmendable pieces
:smack::(:mad-
And I am not AT ALL surprised !!!
Rosa’s is a great place. Tony is one crazy Italian, and I love his mom … I’m very glad the club has been a success.
Off-topic, but now that you’ve got me started … Howard Armstrong was also the subject of a fine documentary about his life in “old age” (he was 94 when he passed) – “Sweet Old Song.” I caught it on PBS (P.O.V.) and would love to see it again. See wiki for more info on that.
I’m a little late to this party, but WOW! Congratulations!
(I’m a jazz vocalist who also sings some blues. :))
