Yeah, ours is a fairly new machine and I barely hear it unless he takes it off while it’s still running to go to the bathroom. However, considering the earth-shattering magnitude of his previous snoring, it might sound like a tornado touching down in the living room and I wouldn’t really notice it.
I’d much prefer he go to a doctor and get a sleep study and see whoever he needs to see, but he doesn’t and won’t have a couple grand to do it with.
It’s done wonders for me. The only drawback is that snuggling time is no more unless I choose to do so without my nose hose. SWMBO claims she’s sleeping with Darth Vader now, but it’s helping her as well because I’m not waking her up during the night with my snorting and gasping for breath.
Yes, that should work. The only issue with a CPAP is face-to-face cuddling, since you’ve got a hose strapped to your face that emits a stream of air, so it’s not so pleasant. However, my fiancee and I just cuddle for a few minutes before we shut the lights out to go to sleep, then I strap on the machine. I’m a back sleeper, so she sometimes cuddles up to my side, with an arm around me, which is fine, or “spooning”, with the person wearing the CPAP being the “spoonee” is good too.
The thyroid issues will certainly contribute to the weight as well as the fatigue. Is the boyfriend on any thyroid meds? if not, why not? He definitely shouldn’t wait til the CPAP is in place, to deal with the thyroid as appropriate.
He’s on levothyroxine 175 mcg. He had been seeing his endocrinologist every 3 months. He’s been graduated to once a year.
As for sleeping, I spent too many years sleeping with him to be able to cuddle face to face. He falls asleep way to fast and he snores sooo loudly. I can’t even have him spoon me because he snores right in my ear. So, I spoon him and we’re both happy.
OK cool, I wasn’t sure what you meant by “tracking thyroid symptoms”, I thought that meant they weren’t doing anything yet. Phew!
The spooning issue sounds like a real annoyance. My husband snores right now and may well wind up with a CPAP in the near future. I have to nudge him to turn over at least once most nights. Of course, due to some shoulder problems I have to sleep on my left side, and he’s on my right side, and I can’t reach him with that arm due to the shoulder problems (it hurts to reach back with that arm), so the poor fellow gets kicked when I need him to turn over!
