My car's windows open without my knowledge

This morning, I noticed that all four windows on my Accord were open by 50mm (two inches). Luckily, the car was in my garage because it rained last night. Many google responses say that if one holds “unlock” on the key fob for more than two seconds (which I must have accidentally done), the windows open. But nobody says why that feature even exists. What’s the point?

Let some hot air out while you are walking up to your car. May be less useful in February…

I have observed the same sort of phenomena with my Audi (A4). My bedroom is directly over my garage and if I leave my fob out in the bedroom I will sometimes go into my garage the next morning and find the windows partially down, or the trunk open, or the moonroof open, or some combination of these.

I’ve come to the conclusion that either I’ve inadvertently pressed something briefly while taking the fob out of my pants pocket or that the fob has some random signals escaping every once in a while when left near the car for a long period of time.

You’re saying all four windows were open by the exact same amount, right?

Weird.

Not weird, if it’s the remote window-opening function.

I have two cars that do that, and it’s exactly as described: the front windows lower until you release the unlock button. They lower at the same rate (identical motors) and for the same amount of time, so inevitably they lower the same amount.

I’d be tempted to put my keys in a Faraday cage box as soon as I got in the house to determine if it’s a random signal from the fob or an inadvertent button push.

In fact, I drop my keys into a metal mesh box on my dresser when I get home. It’s not a true Faraday cage, but it does the job.

We have gotten into the habit of hanging our keys up as soon as we come in the door because it’s so very easy to open the trunk if we don’t.
