Our two siamese cats could not be more different. The female is sedentary, moderately portly, and dangerously cute. The boy is long, lanky, muscular and gets into everything and anything.
He has a penchant for wrapped presents, especially the bows. We woke up two days ago to him hacking like a 90 year old marlboro man - he puked up an entire length of ribbon and bits of a bow. [not the first time]
My wife was very worried for him and brought him to the vet. The vet gave him depo medrol which according to some web diagnosing can cause nausea and vomiting, exactly what we don’t want him doing. Anyway, we’ve administered it twice and hes only moderately better - vet called this morning to check on him and he was just OK.
Has anyone had this problem with their cats? Anyone’s little fuzzer ever been put on depo medrol?
He was puking up red foam for a little while and the vet said that would be normal but it should subside. Anyone have any experiences with this?
Can’t help you with the depo medrol, but I can tell you that I know of a young cat that had to be put down due to an intestinal obstruction (? may have been something similar - I know it was intestinal) from eating curling ribbon. Surgery was an option, but too pricey for the owners. I presume your vet knows what to watch for and hope your cat makes a full recovery and swears off the gift wrap.
As a happier anecdote, my cat Myri ate a whole bunch of string, vomited it all up and was right as rain afterwards. Why don’t you want him vomiting? If it got any remaining ribbon out of his belly before it reaches the intestines (where it can cut things up), that’d be better. Good luck with your cat.
PS: the fear likely is, if your vet didn’t explain, is that any remaining ribbon will get into the intestines and slice them up, or cause blockage. If you see any ribbon come out the other end, DO NOT PULL IT OUT or you may slice him up inside.
