My Cat Caught a Chipmunk!!

Alright, this might not be news to a lot of you cat-owners. But our cat is overweight and arthritic and ten years old, and has been trying for years to catch things, generally without success. (she has caught bugs and toads in the past. And ate them, to Pepper Mill’s disgust – although she pretended not to be, for the cat’s sake.) But a week ago she brought home a mouse, and yesterday I saw her catch a chipmunk, with my own eyes. As with the mouse, she brought it home to brag. She showed last week’s mouse off to the other cat, parading it back and forth: “I have a mouse! And you Don’t!”. But there was no way we were going to let her in the house with a live chipmunk, so she had to be content to let the other cats smell it through the screen door – which they did. She then played with it outside until she got too cocky, and it got away. Then she rubbed against my legs and begged me to bring it back. Of course, I had to disappoint her.

As I’m fond of remarking, “Everybody’s just trying to make a living”, but I’m glad he got away. Siegfreid killed one once, and the mate stuck his/her little head out of the bushes and called all day. :frowning:
