My Cat likes to lick my Head

My cat SleeStak has this thing for licking my head. Actually both my cats have this thing with licking me. I am their Dad and apparently they believe that I am a cat with just a really long furless body. So they feel the need to groom me.

That’s ok. I got used to it. Cat lickings aren’t that bad once you get used to the sandpaper feel.

What does suck is that Slee, from time to time, feels the need to lick my head. This wouldn’t be all that bad except that Slee, to get the proper angle to clean my head, jumps up onto my shoulders. Now, Slee is a fat cat. A very fat cat. She weighs in a little over 14 pounds. So when Slee sees that I am in need of grooming she launches herself onto my shoulders. Since my shoulders aren’t meant to hold a 14 pound cat Slee must extend her claws to gain a solid footing. Once on my shoulders Slee grabs my head with her front paws, claws extended, and goes to town. Note, if I jump up and try to get Slee off me all she does is clamp down tighter and enjoy the ride.

While I appreciate Slees effort to keep me clean and bug free I really could live without the bleeding.
Slee.

Yes, My user name is my cats name. Deal with it

Tengo un gato en mi pantelones!

You are so lucky to be getting kitty kisses!
My cat used to do that and I miss it–it means you are appreciated and part of his pack! It does sometimes feel a little weird–like the line between human and animal has been crossed. But given that we treat them like family members anyway, it just means that you are being rewarded for your caretaking and “wuv”.
Boo Hoo-- I miss my kitty:(

So does your cat’s breath smell like your head?

Looks like your cat is related to my Totoro. He’s also big, and he does the same jumping-on-the shoulders, digging-in-the-claws thing. Except Totoro doesn’t lick my hair as much as bites and tears at it. I think it might have something to do with my conditioner.

All of our cats, with the exception of Piper Grace, are kissers.

Gypsy kisses are the rarest, but she’ll give them from time to time.

Buffy and Misty are the biggest kissers. Misty, unfortunately, has a very rough tongue (I guess because she’s an Angora and her coat is so thick), and she has to get right up in your face and lick your nose. It HURTS.

Buffy always has to lick my fingers-and bite my arms.

Noel gives little kisses when she’s in an affectionate mood, but not always.

Molly used to lick my head sometimes, but in our house, that made me the lucky one. She’s been known to come upon my husband while he was sleeping and start grooming his armpit.

[mini-hijack] Heh, I once had a cat named Sleestack…my friends found him on an island in a river and brought him to me. I had him for about a week and then my friends went back to the spot (swimming hole) and discovered that there were a couple of guys living on the island (longer story than this one) and they were missing their kitty. Bye bye Sleestack. [/mini-hijack]

When I was growing up, the family cat, Skittaroo, would lick the back of my Dad’s neck when he came home from work. He was a diesel mechanic and was usually covered with grease and other lovely smelling (and tasting, I’m sure) things.

One of my current cats isn’t necessarily a kisser, but he will (when he is feeling needy) climb onto my lap and suck on my earlobes. The things we do to keep our cats happy.

I have a head groomer too. Peanut Head sleeps on our pillows above our heads, and at least once a week I will awaken in the middle of the night to her fastidiously licking my head. Being of an age where I have a bald spot, the effect can be particularly ticklish. But I don’t mind; she doesn’t do it to anyone else in the family. I’m just lucky that way.

Anyone here ever lick their cat’s head?

No?

No, me neither.

Those must be some crraaaazy long earlobes.

My cat licks my head, too. Especially my face, especially inside the corners of my eyes. She really likes it if I’ve been out running or something like that, when I’m sweaty.

Snowball grooms Hubby’s hair. But she would NEVAH disgrace herself by jumping up on him. No no no. He must bow down before her most excellent alpha-kittyness. He gets in the shower - she get on the vanity. When he’s clean, he will blot most of the moisture from his scalp then sit on the side of the tub and lean over to her. This places his head at perfect cleaning height. Hubby says that this is why he’s losing his hair - it has nothing to do with his dad being bald, it’s all about cat spit.

We used to have a kitten that would crawl into bed next to my sleeping aunt and suck on her earlobes. Damndest thing I ever saw. Must’ve been weaned too early.

My cat Beau likes to lick my ears. Perhaps they’re dirty. I can handle it for a few seconds before I start giggling and go into convulsions.

Pica used to lick seal_jr’s head when he had a buzzcut - sandpaper to sandpaper, I guess.
Now his hair is down to his belt - and no one licks his head any more.

That I know of.

Wow,

When I started this thread I thought I was just telling an amusing habit that my cat had. Now, after reading all these tales I believe that we have come upon a cat conspiracy. They cannot be licking our heads just for the sheer joy of it. There has to be a plot behind the head lickings. (#1)

#1. That statement must go on my Tombstone.

People ask me how I keep my hair so shiny.
Cat spit.
My eldest, Shadow, wraps himself around my head when I lie down to sleep and he kneads, licks, and purrs.
I now have gotten very used to it.

two of my three cats are “lickers”. My cat Guinness feels that i need to be “groomed” on a regular basis and licks my hair and every now and then he starts licking my ear- which is very loud and tickley.
My othercat Denali tends to lick my eyelids when I am in bed. He is very sneaky about it too. When he does that and I open my eyes and look at him he looks at me with that “what?” look.

Most people have to put peanut butter on their head to get it licked.

Yeah, well, my (once upon a time) male cat used to suckle his own virtually non-existent teats. Consider yerself lucky.

In other news, I need therapy.

I have. I don’t remember why, just that it was very furry.

I think my cat thought I was an incompetent cat who needed to be groomed and fed. She used to kill mice and give them to me.
