Actually pitched them, or fed them to the cat? If the latter, realize that he now knows how to trigger a real feast!

They make kid-proofing latches for fridges, easier to manage than duct-taping.

Or did you mean you duct-taped the cat? In which case, I don’t think there’s a commercially-manufactured alternative, so duct tape may be the best option.

Back to the OP: My answer would depend on whether the food was still cold. Mostly I’d try to have a big cook-fest (as appropriate), and eat or freeze the resulting goodies.

I suspect you kept the door tightly closed, however - a well-stocked freezer can last several days if you don’t open it.

We lost power for 36 hours a year or so ago and didn’t throw anything out from the downstairs standalone freezer. We did toss stuff from the main fridge / freezer combo, as it wasn’t as solidly packed or as well insulated. It was a good excuse to do some housecleaning.
