Two cats - male about 15, female about 11. I notice when I scoop their litter box, every other day there’s a particularly substantial offering. It’s as if they only poop on alternate days. They’re strictly indoor cats and they don’t mess anywhere else.
They seem perfectly healthy and I’m not worried, just curious. Is this unique to this pair? And anticipating the question, I noticed because since retiring, I tend to be more diligent about daily scooping. I have plenty of time and no place to be.
Both of our cats spend substantial time scratching the side of the box. The cat who started the whole thing is long gone, but it will probably happen as long as we live now (unless we have a catless period).
Damn, you’re lucky. Every day is Fecalpalooza in the land of CairoCats. (3 cats, 3 litter boxes, daily cleaning). The only thing that might make an overall difference, I think, is the kind of food they eat. I inherited about 30 lbs of grocery-store kibble (Friskies or Purina, I think) from a friend whose cat went walk-about and never came back, so for quite a while my kittehs ate that mixed with Iams regular. When they went back to straight Iams, I think the poop offerings decreased a little. However, they recently had a bag of hairball control Iams, and if I’m not imagining it the poops increased again.
I’m back to the straight-up orange Iams as of tomorrow, so I hope the poop lessens a bit. Three young, healthy cats generate a LOT of waste. Sometimes I wonder how I’m going to manage all that poopery-scoopery when I’m 75.
My cats are strictly wet food only due to one of them having the diabeetus so absolutely no free feeding and no dry food because the carb content of that stuff is way too high. Once they got off the dry food not only did their pooping get less frequent, but also less voluminous and about a thousand percent less gaggingly stinky. Yes, feeding wet food is a PITA but it’s definitely worth it and diabeetus kitty is doing really well with twice daily insulin shots and a controlled diet.
They get wet and dry food both - one cat has gum problems so the vet recommends mostly dry. But I’ll bring it up next time I’m there, which should be fairly soon.
My two felines don’t like wet food. I used to give them some - tried several flavors and varieties, and all they’d do is lick up the liquid, leave the meat/fish/whatever, and go back to their dry kibbles. So I quit buying the wet stuff. They seem perfectly happy with Purina, and the vet tells me they’re doing fine. Go figure.
I have two healthy female cats about 4 years old and three litter boxes cleaned daily. I can find no discernible patterns at all. Definitely can go a day and not see poop.
