My cat's latest gift - a rat?

My cat brought in a baby rodent two days ago. I don’t know what it is, but having looked at some pics on the net, I’m growing ever more confident that it is a baby rat.

Its eyes are yet to open but it has fur. So far, we have managed to keep it alive by feeding it a mixture of cow’s milk and warm water. We’re keeping it in a shoe box, with a warm towel in the airing cupboard.

What I need to know is, could this thing be dangerous? Will it carry any diseases? Will it be tame or wild?

In case you’re worried, it is unharmed by the run-in with the cat. We don’t think it’s in any discomfort at all (except for missing its mum).

The cat just wants you fatten him up, in anticipation of Thanksgiving.
