My chest hurts, and it's not my heart. What next?

Ok, Zyada. INAD.

I could say your Boss is an A-hole and the stress is making you ill, so you need a better job.
(…But EVERYONE’S Boss is an A-hole and Everyone needs a better job)

My crappy practicing without a license prescription?
Eat (1) 1x1 inch square of chocolate slowly while watching a silly Disney movie & nursing 1/2 glass of red wine. It won’t do a damn bit of good, but it’ll keep your mind off of it.

Same here. I’ve been packing NitroQuik for over 30 years now; I know how serious it can be. And I’ve seen some of the same threads you have. I just knew this fine lady (since I do know gender now  ) was a slightly different case. As I often say, no harm and no foul.

Please forgive me in advance for sounding woo woo, but I specifically registered here just to answer this post because I couldn’t forgive myself if I didn’t say something.

You mentioned that you had a thymectomy. Please understand that eastern medicine has deemed the thymus as the central location of the heart chakra…your body may merely be missing that element of your composition and is trying to compensate. Before you dismiss me research the mind heart connection…eastern medicine has lots of wisdom that western medicine is just starting to validate. Let me ask - how much love do you demonstrate on your life daily? How do you give/receive love? Have you had much trouble with it since your thymectomy?

Again, forgive my woo wooness. An overactive/under active thyroid and stomach issues also point to possible overcompensation of the missing element. Try researching how to spiritually compensate the lost thymus. I bet that helps.

A friend of mine had similar symptoms (chest pain, heartburn, gas pain when she ate too much or not enough, getting out of breath really easily) and she was diagnosed with a hernia. I’m not sure what kind. Is it possible that your hernia has got a bit worse and is causing new symptoms?

I guess it depends, then. I had pain for many days before I went to the hospital, accompanied by swollen feet. While waiting in the ER the clot began to dissolve. Anyway, OP should go see a doctor.

I will, as soon as you can show me valid research that shows that the “spirit” you talk of exists in the first place.

Just some song…

I don’t think you’ll hear it watching The Oscars.

…maybe you should though…

"Possibly related, I have an umbilical hernia. I haven’t had it corrected, because the doctor I went to told me that it would just come back if I didn’t lose weight. "

I don't understand why you're asking people for medical advice when you won't take it from a doctor ! :smack:

My father had chest pains like those the OP described, and like him (or her) the doctors could find nothing when he went to have it diagnosed. The doctors also talked about GERD as a possibility, but my father and His ex- nurse wife were having none of it and we’re persistent. Finally, they demanded a test where a sensor was ran up from his leg and a 3D movie was made of his heart while beating. I know nothing more about the test than that; but it was a relatively expensive diagnostic that gives a super high resolution image of the heart during pumping.

My father had a very serious blockage on the backside of his heart that was not visible during the normal testing and had to go almost immediately into surgery to get a stent put in; or was it a bypass? I don’t remember anymore, but it was very serious.

All of the OPs symptoms sound like a cardiac issue. I would demand more invasive testing.

#1 - I did take this particular doctors advice - his advice was to NOT get the operation unless I lost weight first. And that there really wasn’t a need for the repair unless it was causing me problems.

#2 - I’m not asking for advice, I’m asking for information, specifically, does anyone know of anything I should be talking to my doctor about re chest pain now that we’ve eliminated heart problems.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

This shows just how out of effing touch with actual human physiology the woo-wooers really are.

“Missing thymus” is the cause of my problems? Are these people even aware of the fact that the thymus atrophies and basically shrinks down to nothing right during adolescence? You know the time when teens really start to double down on the romance?

Oh, ftr, my love life is the best it’s ever been, ever since I met and married my darling rjk.

That just means it’s super diluted, which makes it even MORE powerful!

Glad your heart is in good shape Z. Moxmaiden had similar issues and was finally diagnosed with Costochondritis, which is essentially inflamed cartilage where the ribs join the sternum. She has mild scoliosis and the slouching over a keyboard or hunching her back was causing irritation of the sternum. She worked on her posture and did some back strengthening exercises and supplemented with some vitamin d for the bone and joint health and it mostly went away on its own.

It isn’t really something that can easily be seen on an x-ray(because it’s soft tissue), and it’s a pretty common cause of chest pain. May be worth talking to your family Dr about.

Enjoy,
Steven

I just discovered this thread, and want to suggest that you ask your doctor if it could be pleurisy (inflammation of the tissue that surrounds the lungs).

The first time it happened to me, initially I dismissed it as gas/acid reflux. But when a bottle of Tums didn’t help and the pain got worse (after a day or two it was waking me up at night, and eventually breathing hurt so much that I felt I couldn’t take deep breaths), I went to urgent care. The doc ordered an EKG to rule out a heart issue, and when that was clear he said it could be pleurisy and recommended taking the maximum dose of an OTC anti-inflammatory (I used Aleve) for 24 hours. If the pain didn’t subside I was to return, but it did. It’s happened to me two more times over the years. I can’t identify a common cause, but each time taking a bunch of Aleve and waiting 12-24 hours has done the trick.

Best of luck!

I was in a similar situation and it turns out I had a non-worrisome cyst in my breast. They found it by doing an ultrasound where I felt the pain. The pain was stronger when I was closer to getting my period (sorry to those who are grossed out by such talk), and lessened when I wasn’t. I didn’t even correlate that until they asked when it was the strongest. They said they would drain it if I was so uncomfortable and in pain, but now that I know what it is, I can deal with it.

I went through a period of about 6 years or so with chest pains that mimicked a heart problem. The pain extended into my jaw and left arm. I changed Dr’s and he nailed it on the first visit. I did not have extra pain on exertion. The Dr. checked out my saliva and found it was foamy and I was over salivating possibly from anxiety. He said the pain was from swallowing air and creating an air bubble in my chest. He recommended I carry a hanky and whenever the problem starts just start wiping my mouth instead of swallowing. It was an instant cure in my case after severe suffering for several years.
