My clever toddler

My two-year-old has just been cracking me up lately. We were in my husband’s truck and she asked him to put on “Mommy’s alright, Daddy’s alright.” He tells her that he doesn’t have that one, she’s thinking of my music selection. So she proceeds to ignore the Christmas music playing on the radio and sings, “Mommy’s alright, Daddy’s alright, Mommy’s alright, Daddy’s alright…” That goes on for awhile and I guess she was having trouble remember anymore words so she starts filling in with Blue’s Clues music. So her song went, “Mommy’s alright, Daddy’s alright, We can do anything that we want to do.”

This morning she’s flipping through a huge book of mostly pictures called Valley of the Golden Mummies. A couple of weeks ago, her sister had read a book called “Mummies in the Morning” and I guess the title was stuck in her head. She starts singing to the tune of Skin-a-mar-ink-a-dink, “Mummies in the morning, and mummies in the night, Mummies in ancient Egypt underneath the pale moon light.”

Well, that’s my future Barry Manilow. A lot of kids do this. What’s your story?

My daughter (The LittleGoddess, age 3) is, like yours, a singer.

At the top of the LittleGoddess’ hit parade right now is “Jingle Bells.” But she likes to throw in any old word. It’s funny to see what she’ll come up with.

Fans of “Elmo’s World” on Sesame Street will recognize this. Elmo does the same thing at the end of his segment–he takes one word, and sings it over and over and over again, to the tune of “Jingle Bells.” I think it’s cute!

LittleGoddess also is a big fan of Johnny Winter. He’s got a tune called “Johnny Guitar” which my daughter just LOVES. She loves to play her own guitar (a real guitar–her dad is a musician) and sing that song. It’s a riot! You ain’t seen nothin’ until you’ve seen a three-year-old girl strike a pose with a guitar and tell you she’s “gonna play your town!”
