My college rooming situation

So I’ve asked almost every gay person I know: “What is the best way to come out to your roomate?” I’ve asked you guys, talked it over with my parents, and spent a large amount of general angst on the subject.

I got my housing assignment today.

I’m in a single.

I’m not sure if I should be relieved or pissed off. I mean, I wasted precious angst on that one!

Which college assigns a single dorm room to a freshman?!?

I had to wait until my senior year for one!

William & Mary gave me a single my freshman year. Of course, it was a converted broom closet. Not sure who got the better end of that deal.

LOL

I’m sorry andygirl but I truly laughed out loud when I read your OP.

I’m glad the problem didn’t turn out to be one, though you will no doubt have to face similar situations in the years to come so it’s probably not wasted as such.

Good news though. Maybe the lesson here (well sometimes we NEED a moral of the story) is not too worry too much.

Then again maybe it’s that we should go to that particular college…

Keep smiling.

And btw, angst isn’t precious at all: it’s too common and we have an abundance thank you very much.

In my dorm, on my floor, there was I think one guy with a single. There were maybe 12 dorms in that area, three floors each. That translates to 36 singles out of . . . 1080 people.

In high school I had a roommate for all of frosh year and half of soph year. I had a double-single junior year and a normal single senior year. Then this past year I had a roommate for only half the year until he moved in with a frat brother.

It would seem that either I drive roommies away or I have LUCK.

Hey andygirl!

You’re young. You’ve got plenty of time left for angst. Lord knows I still do.

Lucky bum, you and your single room. Grrrrrrrr…

So when do classes start?

A bit of a hyjack, but the more ivy the school, the more singles they tend to have, in my experiance. Columbia is something like 65% singles. In Manhattan.

I, on the other hand, get to keep my apartment, and am registering as a continuing ed student. Freshmen and sophmores must live on campus, my ass!

andygirl, it never seemed to be a problem in any of the porno’s I’ve seen. In fact, very often the roommate was thrilled…

And so were the delivery people, the cheerleading team, the landlady…

I wouldn’t have minded a lesbian roommate, at all. I probably would have patted myself on the back for being such a liberal, tolerant person. I know I would have prefered one to the heterosexual freak who left used douche bags and yeast cream tubes in the shower.

Anyhoo, I’m glad it worked out so well for you. Perhaps this is a good omen for the rest of your life!

“I know I would have prefered one to the heterosexual freak who left used douche bags and yeast cream tubes in the shower.”

–I had a college roomie who did that, too . . . He really creeped me out.
