I wasn’t going to get this, but after all these rave reviews I may have to reconsider.
I got my copy last Wednesday, and I’m still freaking blown away by it.
I’m still trying to figure out what I like best: the new beginning to Octopus’ Garden, the slide from Mr. Kite into She’s So Heavy with Helter Skelter lyrics, the remix of Lady Madonna, or the new intro to Get Back. I lean towards Get Back, but that was early enough in the album that it might have hit me harder than it otherwise would.
But it’s still all so brilliant.
Hey John
Also listen for McCartney’s bass throughout.
He’s always made that thing sound like a solo insrtrument, but on this mix you can actually hear those bitchin’ bass lines without having to strain.
And I need some fellow drummers to check in on this: I think that intro roll on Mr. Kite is new. Ringo was not what you’d call a rudimentary drummer and that roll sounds more “open” than what I heard on Sgt. Pepper.
Thanks

My first thought when I heard it is that it was the drum roll from the beginning of “All You Need Is Love.”
We’re going to see the show in Feb., but just listening to the album, most everything seemed well-suited to the type of productions Cirque does so well. Looking forward to it…
I like it, but am I mistaken, or are some of the songs no different from their original versions? “I Am The Walrus” sounds basically the same, with some boosting of the cellos; “I Want Too Hold Your Hand” just has studio audience screams added, and damned if I can hear anything different about “A Day In The Life”. The sound is better, to be sure, and I’m not really complaining - I just expected more mash-up treatment overall (the stuff they did mix together is impressive).
Some songs are nearly untouched, others changed dramatically.
I’m still blown away by the 5.1 mix. If you guys have a chance to hear the DVD on a surround sound system, don’t miss it. It’s awesome.
This is a mix of the studio version and the Hollywood Bowl live recording. In surround, the studio track is in the front speakers, and the live track is in the rear.
