God this movie has really grown on me!
Forgive me if anyone has brought this up before but…
Is Satine the daughter of Harold Zidler?
I know from the DVD that in early drafts of the script that Satine was a bastard child of Christians dad but that was dropped.
Both of them have the flame red hair and blue eyes.
Satine says

Plus how else could he give her to the Duke in a contract?
Or maybe she is a replicant?
She’s the Noree to Zidler’s Malky?
Would that make the Duke into Leto II and Christian into Duncan Idaho CDLXIII?

Obvious, true, but I love screwing with theology like that.
There’s no textual support for assigning parentage of Satine to Harold Zidler or anyone else (rough drafts of the script don’t count; only the finished product). It’s certainly possible, but it puts Zidler in a light a that’s a lot nastier than I care to have shone upon him. My thought is that he took her in off the street at a very young age and molded her into the high-priced courtesan and sparkling diamond that she became. He loves her, perhaps like a daughter, but he’s not her father.
