I’m a male and I love these books. Grandma Mazur is my favorite character, though Lula is a close second.
This site has a recap of the major and minor characters, as well as a listing of all the cars Stephanie has had destroyed, and (of all things) a list of the number of showers she’s taken in each book (obviously, the web site author needs to get a life).
I haven’t read Evanovich’s other books, but my wife did and told me not to bother. I think her exact words were “they suck”.
I discovered the series this winter and had a two week reading binge…so much fun! I was so glad that there was actually some, um, actual interaction between the three main characters, not just a perpetual tease. And you’re right, Ranger loses a bit of his sexiness the more you know him, and Morelli becomes more appealing. I just started my daughter on the series.
The other books are just not good. I took out the book on tape version for bus rides, and ended up yanking off the headphones…just too different, and not interesting at all.
Can’t wait for Book 10! Oooh, and now I’m remembering that scene with Ranger…I may need to review some bits!
I read the first one. It wasn’t very good, so I haven’t picked up any of the others. I saw some Evanovich touches in the tics of the main characters–kind of funny. But on the whole, the book read like Sweet Valley High for grown-ups. Serious suckage.
