So, do any of you have a serious criminal(s) in the family? I have a brother who went to jail for faked credit cards, and i myself went to jail for 30 days, for obviously no reason.
My paternal uncle, the preacher, served five years for bank robbery as a young man. He worked as a teller and was the inside man. Becoming a preacher was a lateral move in my opinion.
One of my moms younger brothers kneecapped a man with a baseball bat as that man was exiting a bar. Apparently, the man had beaten and threatened him earlier. I think that my uncles immediately subsequent service in the army was the result.
My FIL was a bankrobber.
Drove the getaway car.
Someone got killed, and he did time, although he was not involved in the holdup or shooting per se.
He never talked about it, and I didn’t ask him about it.
My great-great grandfather embezzled money from the government and disappeared. Based on census records, my mother thinks he ended up in an asylum the last few years of his life sometime in the early 20th century.
Pshaw! Mine were kicked out of the gutters of Belfast, Dublin, and Kilkenny. We are the foulest bunch of rogues, pickpockets, thieves, and drunkards you could ever hope to avoid. And we are for hire, no job too rough, no task too dirty, no commission too mean. You may pay us in gold or whiskey, so long as it is Irish, Catholic or Protestant, it ní matter, but please, no Tullamore D.E.W. or watery “Proper No. 12”; we demand real liquor for hard men and fiery women.
Years ago when I was about 11 two of my 15 year old male cousins were arguing out on some property we used for picnics/etc.
One shot the other but never confessed. The other cousin was presumed missing and there was much adult angst that went on for about 6 months.
It was traumatizing for me even from the distance of being very young. My father assisted with the attempts to find out where the missing cousin might have gone.
A hunter found his skeleton in the woods in November of that year and there was a closed casket funeral.
About 12 years later the other cousin committed suicide. His parents owned a bus company so he went into the garage and turned on the buses until he died of carbon monoxide poisoning.
