My day at work

We knew this week would be ugly. One of the cashiers quit (over the phone) on Saturday. Our manager had to re-write the schedule. He was unable to cover the 10 am to 7 pm shift for today, but since the freight crew was here, we got by.

One of the deli ladies has been helping out the freight crew. When we get to a point where it looks like we’re going to finish stocking the shelves, she goes over to the deli. That’s when the excitement began.

Another of the deli ladies provoked a fight with her. It led to a hair-pulling, kicking, slapping fist-fight between the two of them. There was loud swearing and the supply area was toppled. The containers for potato and macaroni salad were knocked over. The police were called.

The provoker and her step-son (who also worked in the deli) quit. The other lady is likely to be fired. That will leave three open positions in the deli, which is already woefully understaffed. On the cashier side things aren’t much better. One lady is out on surgical leave. Another worked her last day today before leaving for Illinois to attend her daughter’s high school graduation. She will be back from her vacation in June. The rest of them seem to call in sick for trivial things like hang-nails.

I don’t want to go to work tomorrow.

Holy Cow! This doesn’t seem like a very pleasant place to work. I’m not so sure I wouldn’t be one of the ones looking for work elsewhere.

I’m curious to know the topic of the hair-pulling fight, if you know it.

Hope your situation stabilizes quickly! :frowning:

Are you kidding? Free girl fight - with potato salad! Do you know how few companies of any size list that among their benefits? Where do I sigh up?

Call in sick with a hangnail. What are they going to do to you, fire you?
