My depressing dental journey

I had a tooth extracted years ago and my dentist discussed with me the option of getting an implant. I have a permanent bridge on the other side of my mouth, but for this tooth a bridge was not really an option because one of the teeth next to the extracted tooth is a wisdom tooth that grew out crooked, so trying to connect a bridge to it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible. However, the place he recommended going to for the implant was not covered by my dental insurance, and I couldn’t afford the full cost at the time.

After all these years I’ve gotten used to the gap, and at 72 with all my other health issues I don’t see the point of filling the gap. I’m currently having a crown on the tooth directly above the gap replaced (which is costing me more than I thought it would even with my dental insurance) and the dentist joked about not having to worry about making the new crown too big to clash with the (non-existent) tooth below it.

I’m really curious how that spot on your jaw turned out; I hope the surgeon’s results were negative. I ended up at Spicewood Dental right when I was in a tough spot with a bridge that wouldn’t stay fixed due to bone recession. They saved my support teeth through very deep periodontal cleanings, something my old dentist didn’t even suggest.
