My dishwasher is a cat magnet.

Can someone explain to me why my cat is suddenly enthralled by the dishwasher? For the past three nights, I’ve found him in the kitchen, staring at the dishwasher, fascinated.

I’m a little freaked out, wondering if we have mice or something, and there’s a nest under the dishwasher, but I also have no idea how to figure out if that’s the case. In the meantime, he stares at it like it’s about to give him the secret to the meaning of life.

And I continue to freak out.

Of course, you know there’s no explaining cat behavior.

Anyhow, does this happen only when the washer is running? If so, perhaps there is a tiny squeak that you can’t hear but he can.

If it isn’t running, there may indeed be mice behind the machine.

Or, the poor cat is just going nuts, hearing voices.

If he starts stalking you because the voices told him to, watch out!

Ew ew ew ew - I don’t want to hear that there might be mice behind it!

I know he doesn’t only stare at it when it’s running because I opened it up last night to show him the inside.

And he already stalks me…I’m his favorite person and he must stalk me to get the attention he craves;).

It’s fairly easy to pull out the dishwasher to find what’s behind it. There will probably be a screw holding the front of the dishwasher into the bottom of the countertop for stability. Remove the screw and pull straight out (but not too far or fast, or you might accidentally unplug the hoses or wiring).

If there are mice back there, you’re better off finding out and treating the problem now, rather than waiting.

Hmm. I think I’ll take the baby shopping this weekend and let ElzaHub and his dad figure this one out. That way, if they do find mice, they can let the cats get them while I’m gone  .
