My doberman Jake has bone cancer

No, it’s not bad, it’s an act of enormous kindness. And it’s a tribute to Jake (and to other Dobermans of your past) that you unhesitatingly want a Dobie in your life.

Good boy, Jake.

Exactly–take them as they come to you. So sorry about Jake. :frowning:

I am holding thoughts of Jake with me today. It’s always so hard when a good animal goes.

You’re giving a good life to the new guy, StG’ no reason to feel guilty. I’m sorry that Jake’s time is near; you’ve been lucky to have each other.

Leet the Wonder Dog sends his best to Jake (and you), and to the new dog.

Whenever you remember Jake, not all the shades of death will be able to stop him from wagging his tail.

Regards,
Leet

When I lost the original Bubba it felt good to know that Dopers understood and felt my pain. It’s good to see that you’ve rescued another Dobe.
Hang in there.

And just think, for a little while Jake will get to be the alpha dog again.

**Thanks, everyone, for your understanding. ** - I took Jake into to see the vet, and the vet said that he doesn’t seem to be in pain or anxious. The breathing issue is caused by tumors in the chest cavity impeding his lung function, but as long as Jake is eating and not anxious, he didn’t see any reason to put him down yet. He said it’s the end stages, but for today he’s okay.

Good boy!

Those last weeks are agony. I’ve been there. So sorry for losing your buddy, and thank you for taking in another dog that needed a home.

Here’s a picture of the new dog. His name is Drago, but I think that has to change. He is very sweet, a real cuddlebug.

StG

How could anyone have given up such a good looking dog?

And I think Drago is a cool name, unless it reminds you too much of his former owners.

Drago’s a handsome boy! Scritches to him, Jake and the rest.

He is beautiful! Congrats and THANK YOU for giving him a great home!

I’m so sorry to hear about Jake’s demise, but it sounds like his final days are going to be damned good. Enjoy them as I’m sure he will too.

And your new charge? What a handsome fella he is. I nominate a very boring name to stop him getting a swelled head about his photogenic looks.

I’d call him Graham.

Jake’s gone. He was out this morning, running with the other dogs and barking at motorcyclists, then crashed this evening. I got him to the emergency vet to have him put to sleep, but he died while he was waiting to be seen. You were a good dog, Jake. I love you.

StG

I am so very sorry for your loss. I know there are no words that can take that pain away. (((hugs)))

So sorry for your loss.

At least Jake got one more good day, running and barking at people, and when it came the end was swift.

But we know from experience that it hurts beyond all reason to lose a friend like that. Jake was a good dog, and I’m sorry for your loss.
