I am so, so, so sorry. My heart aches for your heartache.
Ah Jeez.
Count me in with the “hoping this had a happy ending” crowd.
Lily will get some extra loving and chopped up turkey this Canadian thanksgiving weekend.
Take care.
I am so sorry for your loss.
I had the same thing happen many years ago. My mother was living with us at the time and she kept odd hours. She let our two dogs out at 3am and they never returned. My dog Pepper was found later on the side of the freeway not far from our house. My husbands dog Lady was never found.
We also put up posters and put an ad in the paper. A truck driver who read our ad happened to see a dog that fit Peppers description on the side of the road called us and it was her. It was very heart breaking.
This has to be the saddest thread I’ve read on here yet. So sorry to hear about your misfortune, Mrs Johnston. Don’t let her last unhappy moments sour the 13 years of joy she gave you though.
I’m so very sorry for your loss. I, too, hoped for a better outcome. (((Mrs. Johnson)))
I’m so sorry. My heart is broken for you.
Here’s hoping you can remember the happy times . . . and that perhaps someday you can find happiness with a new little friend.
I’ve been following your story since you posted and was hoping for a happy ending. I’m sorry for your loss. /hugs
I’m saddened to read this. My thoughts are with you.

Oh no! My deepest condolences on your loss.
I was watching this thread hoping for a different ending.

Oh, no. I’m so sorry.
This morning I noticed my neighbour’s (3 doors down) Yorkie had gotten loose. I managed to get a hold of him and take him home before going to work. Normally I wouldn’t have bothered, but this thread made me think better of it.
…I lost my Buddy last February. I know how you feel, just remember the goodtimes!
In the past, I wouldn’t have bothered either - but now, next time I see a dog out in the neighborhood I am going to do what I can to prevent the same thing from happening to it. I think that’s the right thing to do - not just “I saw your dog two days ago (but didn’t bother to call you then).” - that’s not helpful at all.
Thank you for that, Leaffan. I’ve done this for my neighbors, and had them do it for me.
Aw, hell. Sorry to hear that, Mrs Johnson.
You did everything you could possibly do to find Princess - on top of the many years of love that she both gave and received. That’s the equal of the best life any dog has had, ever.
Remember though that out there somewhere is another pup who needs a good home…
today on my way into town i came across a black cat that has been hanging around the 'hood. this time i managed to pick her up, she did get away from me for a bit (luckily on a back street). i sat there for quite sometime while she did big circles around me. a car came down the street and i got a bit nervous.
the woman in the car saw her and stopped. then very slowly inched to her garage (one of the few streets in my 'hood that has parking). i was able to get a hold of the girl and was wrapping her up in my leather jacket when the woman came up to me.
she offered her carrier so i could get the little girl to the pet store 3 blocks away. kitty went in the carrier nicely, and off we went.
little meredith is safe, comfy, and has food, water litter box, and toys. when i brought her in i told them, one of the reasons i was determined to get her when i saw her was you and your princess.
that quiet little back street is just around the corner of a heavily used east-west corridor. i didn’t want to see her get hurt or worse.
I’ve grabbed two or three neighbors’ dogs that were running around the neighborhood (pretty big dogs, too), locked them up in my yard with a bowl of water and a tennis ball, and either phoned the number on their tags or phoned animal control with their tag numbers, so the owners could be notified and come get their dogs. I found a loose dog running around a neighborhood about a mile or so from my house, on my way home from work, pulled over, parked, got the dog, checked his tags and brought him home. I always stop and read missing pet signs and keep my eye out for an animal matching the description. I don’t understand people who will feed what is obviously someone else’s pet, and not bother to phone the owner.
I’m so sorry to hear of your loss.
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your sweet princess.
