My dog had a close call

Last week, my wife and I were at her sisters for a birthday party for my nephew. My brother-in-law was staying at our house. We get a call from him saying " Don’t worry, bear’s OK, but he got hit by a car." Talk about having your heart drop into your feet! Of course, we immediately left and came home. Aparently, Michael was taking Bear out, and he darted into the street right in front of a car. The car wasn’t going too fast, and it just hit him and tumbled him. He got up and ran around like normal. We took him to the vet, where he was kept for observation for 8 hours. X-rays were negative, and he is fine.( Stupid dog. Cost me $130. { and I’d pay it over and over for him to be OK;)}) The thing that gets me is the woman driving the car didn’t even stop. She just drove off. If I hit a dog, I’d be a wreck. I’d insist on taking it to the vet myself, and pay for it too. Fucking bitch! I’d like to have her dart out in front of me. “Officer, I hit the gas petal by mistake”. I’m just glad Bear is OK.

My dog decided to make friends with a car once. She was pretty upset with it, but except for a few scratches, she was fine. We took her back inside and she shook off a good amount of blood all over the new curtains.

I can totally understand how you feel, dave. I have a 15 year old mutt who stays at my partens house still. (Not fair to bring her to an apartment after living there free to go out and run in the backyard whenever she wants) A few months ago, I got a call from my mom telling me that CoCo hasn’t been eating as isn’t moving much and it may be time to put her to sleep. Officially, CoCo is the family dog; in reality, she is my dog and the family realizes this (I trained her, housebroke her, etc when both parents worked and sis was at college). So when it came time to make this decision, they left it to me to make.

So I took her to the vet, who said she had a serious infection and needed a hysterectomy (sp?). It was going to cost me $600 I didn’t have. Guess who lived on Ramen Noodles for two months so that CoCo can still run around my parents’ backyard whenever she feels like it? I’m glad to say she’s still with us and acting like she did 10 years ago, still playing and rolling around in the grass.

I would react the same way as you if I hit an animal (not just a dog) and I’m glad Bear’s ok.

And doc, while you’re X-raying her, you can spay her too.

I’m so glad that Bear’s alright, dave. I hope he has many, many more years with you too.

I can see that you would do that, BratMan.

friedo, I’m glad your dog’s ok as well.

Chief, I have to agree with you. We wouldn’t want that kind of attitude being perpetuated, now would we?

Glad he’s ok, dave. {{{{{{weirddave}}}}}} {{{{{{Bear}}}}}}

Brat Man, that is why spaying a dog at an early age is so important. it sounds like your dog had a pymometra (pus filled uterus). My grandmother’s dog had to be put to sleep becuase it developed a pyometra that ruptured. Of course, that was nearly 30 years ago when vets probably didn’t advise spaying as much as they do now. Anyway, I am glad to hear that everyone’s pets did so well.

So glad Bear is okay. I can’t understand (and don’t want to) people who can hit an animal and just drive on. I try to believe that it all comes around; sometime that soulless bitch will be casually hurt by someone who won’t give a damn.

Veb

My shih-tzu had pymometra a few months ago. She started having all types of seizures and not eating… It cost me over 300 bucks for exams. And now I need to get her spayed as well. Money I don’t have… But at least Katy is living with me now. (my parents house was to active for her) She is much happier now.

Spot and I are so happy that Bear is okay!

I had a shih tzu who tried to catch a motorcycle once. Damn fool ran right into the wheel when the rider slowed down to avoid hitting him. The rider was pretty shook up and Bo Bo just went and sat on the front porch as if to say. There, that’ll teach you, and don’t come back down my street if you don’t want any more of me!!!

Glad to hear he’s okay, weirddave.

I’m so glad Bear is going to be okay. Did your brother in law happen to note that bitch’s license plate number? Could it be prosecuted as a hit and run? Surely there has to be a law against just hitting an animal and not stopping and getting emergency assistance.

I hope someone saw something that can identify the waste of breathing space that hit your dog. As Veb said, what a soulless bitch. I don’t care how scared someone is because they hit something. (Was it here that I read about that woman who hit a body [already dead, but she didn’t know that] on the highway and drove about 3 MILES before stopping, dragging the dead person underneath her car the whole way? She was too “scared” to stop. I can’t even think of something bad enough to say about such a person.)

Anyway, hope your furry boy gets well soon. Give him lots of pats for me.

Glad to hear your dog is all right. I’m always astounded at how canines can survive traumatic (in the medical sense) situations. Just this week in England there was a report about two dogs who survived an 80-foot fall off of the top deck of a parking garage–one of them didn’t even have any broken bones.

Best wishes to Bear on his recovery.

Glad to hear your dog is OK. A year ago my ex decided to take our dog (we had joint custody) camping with him. He stopped to use a restroom at a rest area, and, in typical Athena’s-ex fashion, decided that in order to keep the dog comfortable, he had to leave the window more than halfway down so she could breath. He walked across the busy highway to the restroom, she saw him, and jumped out the half open window to try to catch him. Yup, you guessed it, she ran across the highway and all of a sudden I no longer have a dog.

Damn ex.

::resists posting more hate mail about ex::

I miss my dog. I dreamed about her last night.
