So she’s out and the doc said it went well. I pick her up at 7:30. Thanks for the good thoughts all.
Yay! Good wishes for a quick return to normal. (What’s the recovery like? As quick as for humans? Does she have to wear doggie sunglasses?)
Five is so young to need cataract correction. I have nothing but good thoughts in mind for your puppy.
I asked the doc if there would be any pain and he said dogs tolerate it well. He said she’ll need the cone of shame (my wording) for about 5 days, but she would be up and about and mostly herself tomorrow. All-in-all, I’m told to expect recovery to take no more than a week.
Parenchyma I’ve shared your story with several friends and family who are emailing to ask about her and they all loved it, thanks again for sharing it with us.
Can’t wait to hear about how she’s navigating about the house now, and chasing stuff again outside!
We’re home. KC seems to be doing well, she was very excited to see me. We got home and she peed and pooped and when we got inside she went straight to her food dish.
They said that she tolerated the surgery well and was behaved enough that she doesn’t need a cone. She seems a little out of it, but not too bad (from my own experience with surgery, I’m not surprised) and all in all I think she’s doing OK.
They said it will take a 3 weeks before she fully recovers and she may not see real well for 10 to 14 days.
She’s now laying at my feet.
Thanks for all the good thoughts!
Khadaji - I’m so glad she’s recovering well. Here’s to 20/20 vision!

Ah, that’s great news, Khadaji!
Oh man, I thought I’d already posted in here.
Anyway, I’m glad to hear the good news and I’d like to add my voice to the chorus of others still sending happy thoughts y’all’s way. Hugs!
I’m not convinced that she was in as little pain as they told me:
Several times I awoke in the night to hear her softly moaning.
She never once jumped up on the bed to join me as she often does.
She peed in the house which she only does when sick.
She hasn’t had as much energy as usual.
However, she is seeing much better. Last week during the Super Bowl she couldn’t spot food when people dropped it (food is her favorite-ist thing.) She’d find it eventually with her nose, but she didn’t see it fall nor could she find it if she walked by.
But today I did a test and dropped a chip and not only did she track it with her head, she walked right up and found it without having to sniff for it.
She still moans softly every once in a while, but I think she is feeling better. Hopefully in a day or two she’ll be back 100%
Last update, I think - maybe for future searchers who want to know about such surgery.
Saturday night she was nearly back to her normal self and by Sunday she seemed fully recovered.
She is definitely seeing much much better. I’ve told this story elsewhere on here, but to show how I know:
Whoever owned her before taught her a weird habit. When I get home, I have to throw the ball, she goes and finds it and then she pees. She won’t pee until she finds the ball.
I’ve cursed that person several times, because when I get home in the rain, I throw the ball, she would go look for it, but being blind, couldn’t spot it - and remember, she won’t pee until she does. So then I have to walk down, and help her find it.
Actually, that isn’t quite good enough, I have to toss it so she can find it herself. I always ended up soaked on a rainy day.
Today was the test then: I came home, threw the ball and she spotted it straight off. She was very excited too. She had a quick pee, but stopped to bring the ball right back. I threw it again and she went straight down, found it straight off again, and of course had to finish her pee.
She spotted the ball every time, she can definitely see again!
So: About 1 day of recovery, and *immediate *sight improvement.
That’s very peculiar.
I’m glad she’s doing fine after the surgery.
Yesterday I was throwing a toy for Andy, and Wylie (who was hit by a car about two weeks before, and is still sore) wanted to play, so I’d throw a different ball for him about 5 feet away. He was thrilled to be able to get it and bring it back.

So glad things are going well.
You can use my story anytime, Khadaji. It was one of the nicest moments in my training, and the appropriate situation for sharing it has been rare.
I thought cataracts was fixed by some sort of laser operation these days?
I’m always up for a good game of pee-ball, myself.
Awesome. I’m so happy for her. ![]()
