Recently I’ve been bidding on a bunch of stuff on Ebay, and I’ve almost always been outbid. Well, yesterday I won not one, but two auctions. I got the Ultra and 4-lane Cliff Hangers racetracks. Add that to the Nite-Glow Cliff Hangers I won before and now I have about 100 or so feet of track to put together.
I won’t lie to you by saying that I was only interested in getting this for my son, but that’s part of it. I figured after I got the first one (the Nite-Glow one) that I got for my own entertainment that I could make a gigantic track and Aaron and I could have a blast together, as if I had gotten an HO railroad or something. You know, that father-son bonding thing.
I look forward to getting the stuff and putting it together so that I can see the look of pure joy on his face, just like the look I had when I was a kid and got racetracks for Christmas.
I was the kid who had the easy-bake oven thingy in our house, FWIW.
My father and I had great fun two winters ago collecting boatloads (well, not quite, but a lot) of marx toys. A Happy Thing[sup]TM[/sup] from when he was a wee one. I think we were eventually able to put together a collection of at least one of everything he wanted. Including accessories. Sometimes mint in box.
This winter (we ended up not being able to last winter) we’ll sell a few (ha) of them online (because really, who needs 5 of the same $600 doll?) and make a royal killing. It will probably be enough to buy a car. New, even, depending on the model and how things go online.
And then we’ll start again. Our little Marx Encyclopedia, which is how we figured out what was a good buy and what was not, in addition to drooling over rare figures both in picture and in person, is getting rather worn. My father initially bought it for me so I could see what-all there was to the whole system.
We ended up using it as a reference point for every auction, even the ones we watched.
We won’t keep everything we bought (see previous), but we will keep at leat one of everything we got. A complete collection, or as much of one as we want.
EZ Bake ovens: Who knew baking by light bulbs could be so much fun!
As for only girls, that is a big negatory there. A very good friend of ours ran away with his sister when they were tykes. On the wagon loaded with toys was an EZ Bake just incase they needed to eat. They just forget the extention cord.
I think kids generally like to cook, though. I think that when Aaron gets older, he’s gonna want to break the eggs and mix the hamburger meat just like I did when I was little. It’s fun, and how else can you get dirty and not risk Mom’s disapproval?
Just do what my father’s family did, Guin. Keep them on increasingly high shelves in display cases. The more valuable/whatever, the higher up. With restraints, if necessary.
Any company you have over might be a little more than curious about why you had dolls tied up, though;)
