My Epiphany

They do indeed. I managed to get ahold of a pharmacist. I told him how I researched it, and how when I found out that prednisone can have such a reaction, that I started feeling better. I feel much more calm and oriented now.
He wasn’t concerned - he just advised me to call the pharmacy that prescribed the medicine tomorrow, and tell them.
I feel very relieved. Hopefully this will have a lasting positive effect on me (but I’m sure as hell not taking any more prednisone!)
Thanks so much for the reasoned advice - it was a simple answer, but it’s what I needed to hear. I knew I could count on the Dope.
I have a feeling I’ll be a little embarrassed about everything I’ve posted in the morning. Maybe it’ll have a positive effect on my outlook on life.

Prednisone is usually tapered down. Don’t stop cold turkey without consulting your physician.

Good point. I’ve come down quite a bit since I first posted this, and I told my sister and brother in law all about it. I’m thinking if I come down all the way to the point where I feel normal, I’ll just take 1 more tonight (I started off taking 2 3x a day, and today just moved down to 2 2x a day.
Qadgop, what do you think? If you don’t want to give medical advice, just let me know if you think I need to give the pharmacist a call back and ask. It’s strange that he didn’t mention it.

Prednisone for a cold? Is that typical?

For inflammation of the lungs.

I guess it’s similar to when my kids get Reactive Airway when they have a cold and use a steroid inhaler. I’ve just never seem it used “for a cold” before, but that must be what he meant.

Actually, I had a nasty sinus infection. I took 2 rounds of antibiotics for it, and then when I realized I wasn’t completely over it yet (although I was close), i was prescribed some more antibiotics and prednisone. The point of the prednisone was the reduce inflammation in my sinuses, and to help the antibiotics get delivered to where they need to go.
I feel almost completely normal now. I still need to get in touch with a pharmacist (or someone) to figure out if I should completely stop taking the prednisone, or if I need to taper off.
The advice in this thread helped me through a very overwhelming experience. Thank you.

I’m glad you’re feeling better, and I’m glad we gave you a sounding board, but the SDMB isn’t, and can’t be, a substitute for talking to your own doctor. If you call his or her office, there should be a recording about what to do out of office hours.

I’m going to close this thread. Please take care of yourself and make sure you’re talking to trained professionals who are familiar with you and exactly what you’re taking.
