In Spain Mother’s Day is the 1st Sunday in May; there was an article in the newspaper’s women’s magazine about how “it’s difficult to accept that there is a time when your mother becomes old and weak and it’s now your turn to take care of her; those of us who can accept our mother’s newfound weakness will be better for it” and I kept thinking, “ok, but what about those of us who have always been taking care of our mothers, you git?” I figure that, if the sanctimonious writer’s mother has never had anything worse than a cold until her 70s or 80s, trying to explain that some of us have had to learn how not to try and take care of our mothers during every minute of our lives wouldn’t get through.
