Like Ferret Herder, my dad also had these. He’s recovered and is doing well.
Thinking positive thought for you today.

y’all are in my thoughts and prayers.
i hope things go well, and your dad recovers quickly.
All our best, Dave. Here’s to speedy and full recovery.
Thoughts and prayers headed his way, and yours too.
(this is cross-posted with my Live Journal)
First, thank you for your overwhelming response. I feel so loved by you all. And I do love you, too.
I went to the hospital at around 10:30 this morning, and was directed to MICU. Dad was resting, with a bunch of tubes in his arms and nose. Mom was on the phone at the nurse’s station talking with my brother, who also lives nearby.
As it turns out, the bleeding was probably due to his medicine, which is a blood thinner (and most likely an anticoagulant). Whether they need to realign his dosage, or put him on something else is what they need to fugure out now, once they get him stabilized. His blod pressure had dropped pretty quickly, and it’s good my mom called 911 instead of driving him there herself.
He seemed a little weak and wan (which is to be expected), but he was in good spirits. When my father behaves like a gracious gentleman and model patient for his nurse, and makes lame jokes (“They’ve stuck me with so many needles, I’m more holey than righteous now.”), then you know he’s feeling as near normal and fine as can be expected.
Between the two of us, we prevailed upon mom to go home and eat something and get some rest. She’d been up since 1:00 or so.
So the scary, not-knowing part is over. And we’re sure he’ll be fine. He’s in the best place now, and we feel it can be dealt with.
Thank you again. If anything new develops, I’ll be sure to let you all know.
Thanks, love, for letting us know.

Glad he’s feeling better Dave. He appears, as you do, like really great people.
Now you gotta keep an eye on Mom! Sounds like she’s near a nervous breakdown…
sigh
Yeah, my mom is the Queen of MicroManagement. Hopefully, she’ll chill a little bit and let the doctors do their stuff.
Glad to hear he’s doing better.
“And once ay-gayn, the pow-wah of the Ess-ah Dee-ah Emm-ah Bee-ah strikes dayown the wicked spirits of-ah illness. We cast-ah you OWT, unclean spirits!”
Sorry Dave, not trying to make light of your dad’s predicament, it’s just nice to see someone’s problems work out relatively quickly, and for the better, 'round here. Things have been a bit down for Dopers in general, this year.
I am so glad he is doing better
You are in my thoughts and prayers
Dave- I’m glad he’s ok. Here’s hoping he stays that way for another 20 years or so.
My wife and I plan to visit him this evening. So I’ll update you all then.
Thanks again for the kind thoughts and prayers.
We were gonna go to the horsepistol tonight to see Dad, but we called my mom to get a status report, and she told us they’re going to do his colonoscopy tomorrow, and she doesn’t know how much they’ll be prepping him tonight. And we can’t go tomorrow night because Sakura has a concert.
So maybe I’ll stop by sometime Thursday, and/or we can visit together Thursday evening.
Good things:
> Mom got about ten hours of sleep, which she no doubt needed. So that’s good for her. Last thing we need is her exhausting herself.
> Dad had an upper GI done today, and they found nothing. Don’t know whether that’s good, actually, but it narrows the search. They know a little bit more about what it’s NOT.
> Dad is also going stir crazy. He can’t get up, has to lie flat on his back, and that’s not him. He’s itching to be up and around, even thought he knows he can’t. So that’s positive in that he’s feeling his old self to an extent.
It’s good, and looks like it will get better.
good to hear, daveguy. i hope they let him move around a bit soon.
He probably won’t want to move after the colonoscopy!
But thanks, rc. I appreciate the kind thoughts very much.
Thank Prime he’s doing OK.
Glad to hear that your Dad is itching to get going - that’s good to hear! And also glad to hear you’ve got a reasonable idea of what’s going on. The unknown is such a terribly scary place.
{My brother gets annual colonoscopies - he gets filled up with a bit of air and they send the camera in. He says the best part is the nurse telling him to fart in the recovery room. Good luck to your dad!)
