I laboured through my Litigation exam this morning, and gosh was it a killer. There was way too much to get through in the three hours. Still, at least it’s over now. Roll on the very generous summer break of three and a half months.
Congratulations! When do you get your grades?
Sounds like you’re a law student; congratulations on wrapping up another semester!
When do you graduate? I’ll graduate from law school (at age 35) in May.
In about four weeks’ time I think.
I have one more semester (two more subjects) to do. I should be finished at the end of first semester next year (June 2007).
do you have articles after that?
Not articles as such. If I want to be admitted as a solicitor and eventually get a practising certificate I would have to do a course of Practical Legal Training as well as a certain amount of “on the job” experience/training under the supervision of a qualified solicitor - 15 weeks’ worth or so I think.
If I’m just happy having the LLB as useful knowledge, then I don’t have to do anything more after I finish the degree.
what about becoming a barrister? is it a divided profession in NSW?
Yes, the profession is divided in NSW. To be admitted to the Bar I’d have to take the Bar Reading Course in association with an already-admitted barrister and then pass the various Bar exams. I think there are three of them. I’m not intending to go to the Bar.
are you planning on qualifying as a solicitor? or are you taking law to broaden your scope generally in business?
I started the degree purely out of interest. Having almost completed it now, and put in all of the work, I’m tending towards getting admitted as a solicitor.
