I was going to build a 24" wide by 14" deep cabinet for the bathroom of my house, which was originally bult in 1934, and went to Lowe’s to look for a counter top. I didn’t find a counter
top (they were all 24" deep and had built-in spash guards), but my roommate (the guy I bought the house from) found a pre-made 24"x12" cabinet with a shelf for $56. The sales guy said I was out of luck because that was designed as an overhead unit (like for a kitchen) and not something designed to sit on the floor, and the bathroom units were all too deep. Guess what? IT FITS THE SPACE PERFECTLY. It’s not as if anyone is going to come in and say, “Hey! This is supposed to be on the wall!” So I spend a little money, but I saved a lot of time. I’m going to look at the Re-Store to see if I can find a salvaged counter top that I can cut down to put on top of it. Either that, or I might find a pair of 12"x12" marble tiles. Aside from getting the top, all I have to do is paint it.
This is the first “home improvement project” I’ve ever undertaken (unless you count putting a dimmer on the dining room light at my dad’s house when I was in high school).
