ETA: one advantage of a chronological resume is that it’s much easier to update and tailor to specific job applications. You don’t have to change nearly as much, because so much of it is just FACTS rather than creative writing trying to upsell yourself.

But of course, a resume I send for one position may look totally different from the one I send for another position, not just in terms of which positions and responsibilities I list, but how I describe them. Gotta get those keywords in…

This observation may be less relevant, though, for someone who is moving around within a single industry.
