My FLV Player...sucks

I downloaded some videos of my brothers wedding…its in .flv format, 3 in all, all about a hour long. anyway. the player works perfectly for 40 minutes…and then crashes. it just stops all of a sudden.
SUCKS!!!

Get an FLV converter. I use one, but am on a different computer so I can’t send a link. Google around a bit and you’ll find several.

I usually convert FLV files to .wmv or .avi files.

You sure it’s not the files themselves? Try another flv file to be sure, or re-download these ones in case something happened and they got messed up.

I have tried those suggestions, and the files seem to hate me!, i ran them through any video converter to mpeg2 files, and the sound messed up and it still cut out short, but now it says they are only 40 minutes long instead of a hour. so i am guessing the files are messed up.

I re downloaded them…and its the same thing. i guess my brother messed up on his end, so i will stop hating my flv player… and start hating him lol.

I think flv is a stupid format, and people who encode in it annoy me. But if i have to play it, i find that VLC player works fine.

I also recommend using VLC. It is versatile and can play most video formats without problems.

I was always unable to seek in FLV files with VLC player. They may have fixed this in newer versions but I use SMplayer (a front-end for the open source MPlayer) now and it works great.

The newest version of WinAmp plays FLV files without any problem.

While the OP states a weak rant, which I’d ordinarily move to MPSIMS, the thread itself seems to be generating suggestions on how to fix a computer problem. Those usually do well in General Questions. I’ll move it there.
